Making Bread

This is pretty much exactly how I do it. Minus the shirt-ripping part, naturally. Wouldn't want to waste a perfectly good shirt.

Having Negative Feelings about Kissing

So I was flitting around YouTube, as one does, searching for that clip from 10 Things I Hate about You where the English teacher raps Shakespeare (not time-wasting, totally school-related), and I came across this channel. This chelstheaggie09 person makes videos connecting various actors through onscreen kisses, a variant of the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game I guess. It's...kind of gross, actually. All that kissing, spreading saliva, and who knows what else, becomes increasingly icky and weird as you watch it, quite apart from the individual merits (or lack thereof) of each kiss. IDK. Maybe it's just me. Decide for yourself:

Reading about Scurvy

I'm not gonna lie, you guys, I get totally excited about scurvy. Share my joy!

Wikipedia entry.

Scurvy: How a Surgeon, a Mariner, and a Gentleman Solved the Greatest Medical Miracle of the Age of Sail (book by Stephen R. Brown that was my personal introduction to the topic).

Scott and Scurvy (a super interesting post about how the cure for scurvy was lost in the second half of the nineteenth century).

Fun scurvy fact time! The term "limey" is believed to have originated from the British Navy's supplying lime juice to their sailors to prevent scurvy. Also, having an effective cure for the disease during the Napoleonic wars was a key reason for the victory of the British, allowing their ships to be at sea for longer because their sailors were in better health!

Now celebrate your new-found knowledge with a tall glass of orange juice! Because you really don't want to be getting scurvy. Scurvy isn't cool.
